In 2019, the Paskenta Band of Nomlakli Indians contracted with a behavioral health organization to provide play therapy to children suffering from emotional and behavioral disorders who are enrolled in partnering preschools. Knowing early trauma can cause a lifetime of mental, social, physical, and emotional dysfunction, and the long-term consequences, in both human terms and monetary expenditures, are costly, EFPN has invested in early intervention.
TK - GRADE 8 COMPONENT
Between 2017 – 2020, PBNI partnered with Corning Union Elementary School District (CUESD)
and the Tehama County Department of Education to improve academic outcomes by delivering quality programming to transitional Kindergarten to grade 8 students. Promise Neighborhood funds supported whole-school reform by focusing on accelerating educator effectiveness in classrooms. CUESD sub-contracted with the New Teacher Center (NTC) and The New Teacher Program (TNTP) to create a context in which students could acquire grade-level literacy and language skills and promote student learning by using program research-based Instructional strategies. This partnership includes building educators’ and leaders’ capacity, progress monitoring towards literacy outcomes, and working with leaders on data-driven instructional leadership. CUESD also worked with two mathematics providers to deepen curricular content knowledge and pedagogy across all grades. Starting in 2020, the University of California-Curtis Center worked with educators in both the
CUESD and Corning Union High School District (CUHSD), strengthening articulation by facilitating collaboration between the existing middle school to high school feeder campuses.
