HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION
COLLEGE ENTRANCE
The Corning Union High School District graduation rate improved from 2017 to 2019 (84% to 90%). Over the last two years, the graduation rates have remained close to 90%, which is 5% above the statewide average cohort graduation rates.
According to data reported to the National Student Clearinghouse by participating colleges, within the first year after high school graduation, from 2016 to 2019, approximately 58.5% - 61% of CUHSD graduates have matriculated to a college.
Based on the data from the NSC, two of the most common colleges that CHS graduates attend are Butte Community College and Shasta College, the closest neighboring colleges to the Corning-Rancho Tehama region.
In 2019, 82% of students in grades 6 through 8 and 90% of students in grades 9 through 12 reported that they had at least 60 minutes of physical activity at least three days per week. Approximately 1 in 4 students indicated they engaged in moderate physical activity for at least 60 minutes all seven days. Students in grades 9 – 12 are enrolled yearly in physical education classes that last about 1 hour and are offered 2 to 3 days per week.
This data is only collected from middle and high school students. The level of participation for K – grade 8 students is unknown.
In 2019, 42% of students in grades 6 through 8 and 28% of students grades 9 through 12 reported that they had consumed a combination of 5 or more fruits and vegetables during the previous seven days.
In 2019, 75% of students in grades 6 through 8 and 85% of stu- dents in grades 9 through 12 felt safe at school. In addition, 90% of students in grades 6 through 8 and 92% of students in grades 9 through 12 felt safe traveling to and from school.
