Vision

Corning Promise, rooted in the Indigenous concept of interrelatedness, works collaboratively with partners to strengthen the Corning community, families and schools by building a continuum of cradle-to-college and career solutions that accelerate progress and create opportunities for long-term sustainability.

Target Area

Initiatives are supported in Corning, California, in the southern area of rural Tehama County, ancestral home to the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians. Resources, funneled through various programs and schools, benefit children living in the Corning area and students living outside the area but attending area schools. It is the goal of Corning Promise to accelerate progress by supporting and expanding high-quality programming through school and community partnerships.

K-12 Target Results

Following an extensive comprehensive needs assessment and data analysis, Corning Promise is collaborating with partners to implement a continuum of solutions to address needs and leveraging strengths. In response to the efforts, Tony Cardenas, Servant Leader shares, “We’re building upon the strengths that we already have.” Objectives are achieved working alongside community partners. As Matt Russell, another Servant Leader puts it, “If you’re going to create sustainability you really need to have the different partners own it.” These words sum up the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians’ approach in building capacity, supporting sustainable initiatives and the way community plays a part in the overarching goal of a stronger community and great schools.

Great schools and stronger community are measured by: children entering kindergarten ready to succeed in school; students becoming proficient in core academic subjects; students regularly attending school; students graduating high school; high school graduates obtaining a post-secondary degree, certification or credential; students are healthy; students feel safe at school and in the community; families and community members support learning.
